About the Retreat

Paul and his team will share in the task of teaching and guiding. Our expanded yoga shala space allows us to handle all students in different classes, as necessary. The retreat will offer a mix of Asana and Pranayama practice, along with practical workshops on philosophy and integrating yoga into daily life. Our intention is for you to feel uplifted and clear in what to practice by the time you end the retreat.

The first week will place an emphasis on asana practice in the workshops, with more on the Philosophy by the second week, apt for an understanding to contemplate closing the old year and opening the new, with both weeks focused on the breath. Keeping things fluid Paul will still entertain questions on all subjects over the different weeks.

There will be a Christmas Eve celebration with special gourmet feast and performances and fundraiser for our local charities. On New Year's Eve there will be a special ceremony to acknowledge 2014 and welcome in 2015 as well as a feast and performances. The special ceremony will help you close and heal the past year, setting the energy and intention for the year coming with an impetus to follow through on it. The rest of your time will be a nice break from all the crazy holiday happenings and commercial onslaught. Come and really enjoy a real break from the holidays.

Special Guest Musician for Christmas Retreat

This year we are pleased to have a special musician Edo & Jo with us during this retreat.

Edo & Jo Edo and Jo are Australia-India-Bali-based kirtan artists and singer-songwriters. For the past six years they have toured extensively throughout Australia, India, Bali, Malaysia and Singapore sharing their love of conscious folk-pop songs and kirtan chant music. Their live Kirtan and Sacred Sound Yoga (Nada Yoga Nidra) events are an organic and spontaneous process for emotional release, divine connection and inner transformation. http://edoandjo.com/music/

Paul Dallaghan

PaulPaul is a senior teacher of Pranayama, Asana and the meditative art and science of Yoga. He has been a dedicated student since the late 1990s of both Sri O.P.Tiwari, one of the few remaining classical yogis and masters of Pranayama, and the late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in ashtanga vinyasa. Both of these great teachers have personally certified Paul in these practices, a unique position as the only one to receive this double honor. Paul continues with Mantra practice from the yoga lineage and meditative approaches, influenced by the Thai Forest tradition. This combination of practice and study through dedication and devotion has helped him gain some understanding of practice and to apply this appropriately in Asana, Pranayama, Mantra recitation and Meditation for the different level of students he has the privilege to share the teaching with. He continues his studies in health, philosophy, anatomy and physiology. Paul is also conducting PhD research on the yoga practices at Emory University in Atlanta, USA. One of his main gifts is to be able to relate the teachings in a very down-to-earth way for the modern seeker. He does not take life or yoga too seriously and as a result the discussions and philosophical sessions are lively and humorous, helping to explain the meaning behind the practices and philosophy.

Edo and Jo

Edo and JoEdo and Jo met in Bali at a yoga retreat and first connected through Kirtan. It was this sweet soul music that sparked a recognition of the eternal in each other. A vision was born in that moment that some day they would walk the path together, sharing the love of song and spirituality. Since then, magical adventures of music, yoga and seva (humanitarian service) have ensued.

Edo and Jo reside half the year in India at Narayani Peedam where they study, lead regular kirtan and yoga events. May to July is spent mostly in Bali where they run yoga retreats, weekly residency at The Yogabarn in Ubud, the Bakthi Yoga component at yoga teacher trainings (link) and Sacred Sound Yoga at the award-winning sacred arts and healing resort, Fivelements.

The Daily Schedule

The program begins at 5pm on the first day of the retreat with a group welcome and departure is at 12pm on the last day.
The schedule is subject to change at the discretion of the teacher.

7.30 am Intention and Day Opening
Breathwork-Pranayama and Meditation
8.30 am Asana Practice:
detailed guidance in the Asanas, develop and grow a self-practice from the Ashtanga Yoga series
going through in led detail and mysore style
10 am - 1 pm Brunch buffet
3 - 3:30 pm Snack and refreshment
4 pm Special workshop covering Asana, Philosophy and Pranayama as well as the selected philosophical
or anatomical topic. There will be some discussion and Q&A and some time working on the breath, poses and restorative yoga
6 - 8 pm Complimentary herbal steam room available
6 - 8 pm Dinner buffet
7.30 pm Evening program - video, satsang, meditation

Deluxe One Bedroom Suite

We only have two deluxe one bedroom suites located in our most private building closest to the sea. They have a private bedroom, living room, fully equipped kitchen, generous bathroom and an extra large balcony. Both suites offer a modern open living room with sofa bed, LCD TV, working desk and DVD/ iPod Stereo. They are perfect for a family or couple. The additional rate is a flat rate based on the room and is added on to the total rate package whether a single individual, couple or family.

I was doing my meditation and holding you in gratitude this morning, so dropping you a line. I did a drop in to a workshop last night, to take a look see, and for the first time that i can ever remember, i looked at the clock wondering, when this idiot would release me and stop wasting my time, (the only time i have ever looked at the clock with you, is when i need the bathroom and wondering if i can hold it, because i really dont want to miss anything!!!), and i remembered something you said the very first time i met you, you had been talking about starting Retreat, and that you and jutima, wanted to create a space of "authentic yoga", so now i wanted to thank you both for doing just that. For the "clean and clear", for not hooking into the mainstream because it is easier, for always giving me a foundation and strength to maintain an "authentic" practice, and for always keeping and holding the authentic corner, where we can come to you and be in the essence of pure yoga, and for your protection, i realised last night how much you protect us from the idiots and impurity that is out there, through you guidance and through the lessons of discernment that you have offered and somehow along the line i have imbibed.

Dear Paul, 
I'm sorry that I didn't get a chance to say this to you in person before you left, but I sincerely wanted to thank-you for all your time, effort and expertise that you offered during the past 3 weeks of workshops you held at Samahita Retreat. You have truly created an environment that is so easy to completely focus on yoga and how it relates to more than just the asanas. And I really enjoyed your down-to-earth approach and explanations. Personally, this experience was exactly what I needed and I feel so inspired to continue to learn more and grow in my practice - However, I must admit that it feels a little daunting to do so in conjunction with work, and in my very tiny village where no one else practices - but I'm optimistic. (If you ever post a sound recording of one of your lead classes, can you please let me know?). I do wish I could have stayed longer and I hope to return in the near future if I can save enough money again.
