Guest Yoga Teacher Programs

We are happy and privileged to be able to host visiting teachers who are experts in the field of yoga. Over the years we have developed relationships with them-sometimes teaching alongside them; other times studying under them. There is much to learn from these individuals, highly regarded teachers who, notably, remain humble and always grounded.

These guests have dedicated their lives to learning through practice and direct experience, and they come to Samahita Retreat to share their knowledge, as well as to encourage a growth within you through their yoga programs.

We also host guests who specialize in health, natural healing, prenatal yoga, and more.

A Special Mention…

Our senior teacher, Sri. O.P. Tiwari, joins us every year. To learn under him is a rare privilege, as he is one of the few remaining masters of Pranayama. He teaches very few other programs today and none in the format done here.

Richard Freeman is a masterful teacher and practitioner, and it is an honor to have him as part of our visiting faculty. We regard him as an inspiring force, and consider his training courses to be in a class of their own.

January 10 - 24, 2015 Samasthitihi in Every Pose with Chuck Miller

Samasthitihi in Every Pose

We have the method; the practice is to bring the method to Life!
We must fill in the blanks with our own experience, use what we feel in this moment, adjusting the practice to our present condition. And we must do this for a lifetime.

Together we can explore how to gather the wisdom that enables us to trust our inner voice. We can learn to let that inner voice guide us through the ever-changing Sea of Samsara. Halahala! Into the Sea of Amrita Bindhu! The “Nectar of Immortality!” The transformation from Moha to Shantieh . . . Peace!

Why not! If we can loosen our grip on our current Beliefs, “empty our cups” and show up ready to learn, we can do it! Little by Little!

January 24 – 31, 2015 Deepen your practice through breath, chanting and gratitude with Sara Granström Thorsson

Deepen your practice through breath, chanting and gratitude

For most people the first meeting with yoga is usually a physical experience, something we move towards through our bodies. However, the traditional goal of yoga has for thousands of years been to increase people’s ability to be more present in the world through the help of a calmer mind.

To practice yoga is to observe ourselves as we are in a given moment without demands or expectations. It’s described in the yogic texts that even though consistency and regularity are important for the understanding of yoga, how we approach the different techniques on the mat will be equally important.

February 15 - 22, 2014 Finding the Softness in Your Practice:Asana, Pranayama, Chanting and Nutrition Sara Granström Thorsson

Finding the Softness in Your Practice:Asana, Pranayama, Chanting and Nutrition

Practice – Although yoga might be a physical practice where we challenge our bodies, it has always been a useful tool for increasing awareness and helping the mind to settle.
To practice yoga is to feel and observe ourselves as we are in the given moment without pressure and expectations. Through daily morning practice of asana and pranayama combined with inspiring afternoon discussions based on the philosophy of Yoga Sutras, we will explore how yoga can be soft and stable at the same time. Patanjali, the author of yoga sutras, would call this “Sthira sukham asanam” meaning to be in the posture with full support, feeling centered and without stress.
