Samahita Yoga Retreat
Rejuvenate and Flow
7 â 14th April 2018
With Gillian Breetzke and Daphne Tse
About the Retreat
A refreshing chance to take some time out of your busy schedule and create the space to unwind in a natural, nurturing environment. We will offer an opportunity to focus on healing, supportive practices through movement, breath and sound with practical tools on how to integrate these in your daily life. We will also draw from the local Thai wisdom and traditions surrounding the refreshing, clearing nature of Songkran Festival, the Thai New Year, which will fall on the 13 th April. The word Songkran comes from the Sanskrit word saáškrÄnti, which literally means âastrological passageâ meaning transformation or change. This will be a wonderful opportunity for you to rejuvenate your soul and find your inner flow.
Each day Gill will lead you through a morning practice starting with §contemplation and pranayama (breathwork practices) in the Kaivalyadhama tradition, flowing into an Ashtanga Vinyasa class which will be guided at the start of the week and then moving into assisted self practice where you will be able to explore and develop a practice or work on your own existing yoga practice.
In the afternoon sessions Daphne will share tools and techniques for opening your voice and a combination of SoulSongs and chants taken from a variety of cultural traditions from around the world. You will learn how to connect and balance your chakras through toning and sounding (making vibratory sounds without melody, rhythm, or words) to activate and engage all parts of yourself.
Through chanting and singing we become connected to our souls, and to our Spirit, through our Spirit. Reclaim your voice and get to know how to use it as medicine, not only for yourself, but for everyone you touch in your life!
This retreat is open to everyone offering a solid foundation for newer students beginning yoga and refinement and depth to students with an established practice. Modifications will be offered for pregnant women and those with injuries.
*If fewer than 5 students sign up, we will give students the option to join our regular YCC classes (http://www.samahitaretreat.com/fitness-programs.html)
About the Teachers
Born and bred on African soil, Gill loves nature and seeks to live by the ideal that a yogi is one who leaves a place more beautiful than when they arrived.
She began practicing yoga in 2004 whilst Teaching in a Primary School in Dublin, Ireland and is now both a Yoga Alliance (500RYT) and 1100hour Centered Yoga Certified teacher. Gill began exploring the world after completing a Teaching degree in Primary Education in South Africa and starting by teaching in Inner city London schools, supporting children from challenging backgrounds. She then moved to Dublin where she spent 12 years immersed in the magic of the Emerald Isle working in the pilot school of the Educate Together movement, an independent NGO that runs school that guarantee equality of access and esteem to children irrespective of their social, cultural or religious background. She feels immense gratitude for all she has learnt through her students…her greatest teachers.
In 2013 she moved to Yangon, Myanmar to teach and train local teachers in an International Primary School and teach yoga. A few classes in her apartment ended up growing into a wonderful, vibrant community of committed yogis. She seeks to inspire and empower her students to listen to their inner voice and find peace from the inside which then radiates out.
Koh Samui is now her home where she is combining her love of yoga and music in this unique transformational place.
Yoga continues to shape my life. Iâm so grateful that this practice, which started as a way to manage stress and increase flexibility, grew to become a central thread in my life. It has brought balance, focus, awareness and a deep sense of inner peace and connection both within myself and to those around me. It is such a joy and privilege to share this living practice with others.
Daphne is a spirited, soulful artist and teacher originally from Texas. Her passion for music started from a young age and took her west to Los Angeles after university. Since her initial yoga class 20 years ago, she has explored merging her spiritual practice with her contemporary folk singer/songwriter style. She studied music at The University of Texas at Austin, Berklee College of Music, The Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago and Kirtan with Kirtan master, Jai Uttal. She has travelled extensively sharing her music in Europe, North America, South America, Asia and beyond. Her music has been featured on yoga music compilations with Shiva Rea and she has released 4 albums, Mata (recorded in Bali), Finding Water (recorded in Hawaii), Samahita Live (recorded in Thailand) and Arigato (recorded in Japan).Â
Daphne has been teaching yoga since 2004 after completing her foundational teacher training in Venice, CA. Initially specialising in kids yoga, she found joy & light working with little people and began branching out and teaching students of all ages. She embraces the teachings of Shiva Rea, Erich Schiffman and Mark Whitwell in her daily practice.
In 2009 while living in Bali, Daphne co-founded SpiritDance SoulSong with her friend and mentor, Ellen Watson. SpiritDance SoulSong is an embodied movement, sounding, singing and fully integrated practice that brings us back to our medicinal roots of the yoga of dance & sound.

I completed the Rejuvenate and Flow program with Anouk and Gill at Samahita in April 2017. Overall, the week was brilliant; superb location and facilities, great food and really clear and caring instruction from both Gill and Anouk. Practicing in the beach Shala was a delight in near perfect temperatures and it was a great way to learn the Ashtanga primary sequence. The other participants were from varied backgrounds and were interesting, friendly, fun and as keen to learn as I was. I came away both rejuvenated and refreshed although I can hardly remember those words being used at all during the program – the magic just happens. Highly recommended.
I had the fortune to be in the right place at the right time!
I chose that specific week only because was the most convenient for me and it ended up to be an amazing experience at Samahita retreat.
Rejuvenate and flow were two very nicely chosen words that sum up what that week was all about.
Samahita retreat is located in a very nice place, very beautiful and peaceful.
Facilities are great and the food⌠well the food is excellent !!!
Definitely this is a experience that Iâm looking to repeat again next year.
Gill inspires, not only in her teaching, but in the energy and love she brings to the practice of yoga. From another teacher I am not sure I would have warmed to Ashtanga, but Gill brings softness and care to this vigorous practice. With support from Gill I have developed a self-practice at home and am very grateful to daily discover and rediscover its many benefits in my life. In classes with Gill I know I am in safe hands and can enter into a space of meditation and observation. Her own dedication to Ashtanga and her many years of studying are strongly felt in her teaching, not only in the technical elements, but in her love of this method as a means to learning about self, sprit and to better live our lives. As a teacher she is human, compassionate and open. I cannot recommend her enough.
