Yoga: The Joy of Practice
September 15 - 22, 2012
with Elonne Stockton
About the Retreat
In this retreat, we will develop our self-practice of yoga asana and breathwork - pranayama. At the same time, we will explore where the practice of yoga comes from, what the different elements of the practice are and why we practice yoga to begin with.
All levels are welcome. This is an opportunity to be in yoga, to live it, to immerse ourselves in the practice of yoga. It is a chance to be in a healthy and uplifting setting with like-minded people, learning about the practice while building something solid that we can take with us to enrich our lives. Get in it, and develop a love and appreciation for the practice. The joy is ours to celebrate; it is already in us.
Throughout the week, we will have morning breathwork - pranayama, intention setting, chanting and asana practice (led asana and self practice classes), afternoon discussions and restorative asana classes, and of course lots of bhakti/devotion! Some mornings there will be additional silent walks or walking meditations, and some evenings we will have optional kirtan, satsang and other activities.

About the Teacher
Elonne has been a committed yoga practitioner and devotee since the early age of 14. She has lived and taught in the Bahamas, Canada, India, the United States, and Taiwan where she has taught asana, pranayama, and meditation at yoga studios, ashrams, resorts, schools, orphanages, hospitals, and clinics.
In 2006, Elonne moved to Asia, where she met her teachers, Paul Dallaghan, O.P. Tiwari, and Richard Freeman.
As Elonne's understanding of the practice grows, she feels more and more like a beginner, and she is excited to continue this journey. I have been sick for a while, fainting with no found diagnosis, muscle pains, stress and constipation for many years. A friend of mine invited me to attend this retreat, I attended the detox program for 7 days of Yoga. After 7 days detoxing and following the program I found that I sleep well, my snoring has gone, my muscle pain on my arms is gone. I highly recommend to all to be open minded, that your health will be better. The therapists at Samahita Wellness were experienced and approachable. Thanks to all the staff for making me better. More power to you all.

We did a 7-day detox last year and I found it very hard. The Wellness Director said the results come afterwards, but I was skeptical. She was right and the weeks after detox I lost weight and felt really well. We've changed our eating habits alot in the last year and during this detox I've noticed a real difference - I feel well, have more energy, and I enjoyed the detox. The Wellness Director tips have been truely life changing for me. I now practice Yoga regularly and eat more healthily.

It was much harder than I imagined, but I am glad I did it and will try to do again in the future. It helped me rethink my relationship with coffee and my eating habits.

Many thanks to you and Jutima for your hospitality at your new place. It is absolutely brilliant; the best yoga centre I have ever been in for everything: the place, the food, the people, the atmosphere, the architecture, and most of all the quality of the yoga. Not only have you maintained the great feeling of the old place, you have gone way beyond it. It was such a privilege to be able to contribute to the opening.

I wanted to thank you very sincerely for the wonderful retreat. I was looking over my photos yesterday
and felt quite nostalgic... everyone attended that retreat for their own reasons, but it was a magic moment
in space & time and I'm sure we all left with positive thoughts and resolutions for the future.
Whether a retreat like that can make significant changes in one's lives depends on the individual... I know that
not only did my practise improve and my eyes were opened to new avenues of study and inquiry, but another
benefit of the retreat was the friendships I made there.
Thank you for being such a wonderful teacher and an inspiration... I'm lucky that I can keep practising here in Montreal, but you've also inspired me in other aspects of yoga, by your discourse and by your example.
