Yoga: The Joy of Practice
September 15 - 22, 2012
with Elonne Stockton
About the Retreat
In this retreat, we will develop our self-practice of yoga asana and breathwork - pranayama. At the same time, we will explore where the practice of yoga comes from, what the different elements of the practice are and why we practice yoga to begin with.
All levels are welcome. This is an opportunity to be in yoga, to live it, to immerse ourselves in the practice of yoga. It is a chance to be in a healthy and uplifting setting with like-minded people, learning about the practice while building something solid that we can take with us to enrich our lives. Get in it, and develop a love and appreciation for the practice. The joy is ours to celebrate; it is already in us.
Throughout the week, we will have morning breathwork - pranayama, intention setting, chanting and asana practice (led asana and self practice classes), afternoon discussions and restorative asana classes, and of course lots of bhakti/devotion! Some mornings there will be additional silent walks or walking meditations, and some evenings we will have optional kirtan, satsang and other activities.
Please join us!
About the Teacher
Elonne has been a committed yoga practitioner and devotee since the early age of 14. She has lived and taught in the Bahamas, Canada, India, the United States, and Taiwan where she has taught asana, pranayama, and meditation at yoga studios, ashrams, resorts, schools, orphanages, hospitals, and clinics.
In 2006, Elonne moved to Asia, where she met her teachers, Paul Dallaghan, O.P. Tiwari, and Richard Freeman.
As Elonne's understanding of the practice grows, she feels more and more like a beginner, and she is excited to continue this journey. She feels blessed by the opportunity to teach at Samahita Retreat, and she is extremely grateful for the chance to help others while she continues her own studies. For more see her full bio.

I want to let you know that I am continually grateful for the
opportunity that I had to study with you in Thailand. You are a truly
inspiring teacher with a Presence that demands dedication and Being.
Every day, I am thankful for you! Now that I am back in New York and
fishing around for a similarly inspiring teacher with such a holistic
approach, I find myself selfishly wishing that you were still here in
Samahita is a lovely retreat surrounded by lush nature, picturesque beach, beautiful and friendly staff and delicious food for those not on a detox. I envied the smell of food however my program was full of juices, coconut water and blended salad that I was able to stay focused and empowered knowing I was investing time, energy & money into feeling great and changing bad habits and forming new ones. I leave here feeling amazing and determined to try and continue healthy life style with yoga and nutrition.

I just wanted to thank the Samahita Yoga Thailand staff for making our 5 days with
you memorable and very enriching. I am typing this as I am eating chapatti
that we made out of your cookbook! Lana and Lorraine thank you so much for
your inspiration. I feel more focused on my yoga. Lambeau and Poom thank
you so much for taking care of my children so that I could practice yoga.
They haven't stopped talking about you since we returned from Koh Samui.
Thank you also for introduing a new diet to me. I have never felt so
healthy as the 5 days that I spent eating your lovely food and practicing
We hope to see you all in the near future!

I was doing my meditation and holding you in gratitude this morning, so dropping you a line. I did a drop in to a workshop last night, to take a look see, and for the first time that i can ever remember, i looked at the clock wondering, when this idiot would release me and stop wasting my time, (the only time i have ever looked at the clock with you, is when i need the bathroom and wondering if i can hold it, because i really dont want to miss anything!!!), and i remembered something you said the very first time i met you, you had been talking about starting yoga thailand, and that you and jutima, wanted to create a space of "authentic yoga", so now i wanted to thank you both for doing just that. For the "clean and clear", for not hooking into the mainstream because it is easier, for always giving me a foundation and strength to maintain an "authentic" practice, and for always keeping and holding the authentic corner, where we can come to you and be in the essence of pure yoga, and for your protection, i realised last night how much you protect us from the idiots and impurity that is out there, through you guidance and through the lessons of discernment that you have offered and somehow along the line i have imbibed.
