Samahita Retreat welcomes The Yoga Academy's Yin and Yang Yoga Teacher Training and Study Intensive, with Yoga Alliance 200-hour certification. Established and led by Simon Low, one of Europe's most renowned yoga teachers, The Yoga Academy is considered by many to be the most highly respected yoga teacher training school in the UK providing in-depth education in the full spectrum of yogic studies.
What is Yin and Yang Yoga?
Not a separate style or school of yoga, but a theoretical and practical approach to a holistic, mindful yoga practice, Yin and Yang Yoga infuses traditional Chinese and other eastern energetic and medical principles into the rich traditions of yoga.
The yang style of practice is a combination of flowing, gradually intensifying breath-led sequences incorporating explorative circular and spiral movement patterns. They are balanced with precise postural alignment, integration of axial and appendicular bodies, moving from a responsive and resilient core, appropriate joint care and careful attention to anatomical detail to ensure safety and ease of movement with individual modifications, where necessary.
In the yin approach to practice, calming, deeply restorative and meditative postures, appropriately supported with props and conscious breathing, are balanced by healing Taoist-inspired work into the primary joints of the torso, myofascial trains and energy meridians. Designed to relieve fatigue and stress, restorative yin yoga stimulates the body's own innate healing wisdom and brings our mental, psychological, energetic and emotional bodies into balance.
The 'dance' of these complementary opposites produces a holistic, mindful yoga practice that balances strength and integration with flexibility and freedom, ultimately aiming for sustainable ways of moving and using our body, balancing the brain and calming the mind for meditation. This approach to yoga practice and teaching helps develop the unity, compassion and consciousness within being human.

"The training gave me a whole new experience and understanding of yoga as a whole. I had read many of the right books before, but suddenly everything made so much more sense. The unique combination of Yang (active) and Yin (restorative) yoga balanced our bodies on a deep level. It was quite a revelation to me that 'less is more'. The training has served me well. It has changed how I teach yoga."
∼Gudrun Docherty, Greece, graduate of YYTT 2012.
“This course is exceptional with high quality education: the teachers are professional, qualified and passionate. I was looking for something serious, and I have not been disappointed at all. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have found and chosen this course.
∼Jacqueline Ahmed, Swizterland/Laos, graduate of YYTT 2013
“This course will change you and the way you practice. Even if you are experienced you will learn a lot from this course. Come with an open mind. If it were not for this course I have no doubt I would not be where I am today, and this is just the beginning I hope.
∼Michelle Killian, Ireland, graduate of YYTT 2013
Simon Low, BWY and Yoga Alliance (E-RYT 500) teacher, is the Principal of The Yoga Academy offering foundational and continuing education to yoga teachers and students in the UK and internationally. After a career in the music industry based out of London and New York, Simon undertook training as yoga teacher and therapist 24 years ago with renowned yoga teacher, therapist and author Dr. Larry Payne at Samata International in Los Angeles, California. These studies were augmented by Simon's training in macrobiotics, bodywork and psycho-spiritual enquiry. Simon's foundational teachings are informed by the teachings of Sri T Krishnamacharya and his primary students. Simon’s current teachings reflect his continued training and on-going studies with international teachers in many forms of Hatha and Classical yoga, traditional Chinese and eastern medicine, Chi Kung, ancient and contemporary healing methodologies, centred-movement, psychology and physical therapy. Simon is an ongoing student of A.H. Almaas' Ridhwan School, but his primary teacher lives within himself, a relationship he continues to cultivate with the help and guidance of his current teachers and practice. He inspires others to cultivate the same relationship within themselves and their own yoga practices.
Following many years of teaching in the UK, Simon co-founded Triyoga in London, where he was Director of Yoga until 2003, since which time he has concentrated on teacher training at The Yoga Academy and on leading study intensives, workshops and rejuvenating yoga retreats around the world. Over the years, Simon has developed a unique and personal teaching style and now practices and teaches a harmonious combination of Yin and Yang Yoga. Not a set system but a balanced approach that can inform and enrich all styles of yoga, Yin and Yang Yoga offers fresh vitality to yoga practice, kindness and respect to the human form, transformative breathing practices, and for the mind - the space for peace and tranquillity.
In 2007, Simon released his now very popular DVD "Yin and Yang Yoga" and will release a Yin Yoga App in 2013.

You will have all the support you need; you are in very good and safe hands.

“This is a life-altering course. I have gained invaluable information about anatomy and self-care, resonant both on and off the mat. I value critical alignment and safety in my teaching - an ethical standard - as I had not considered before. A balanced combination of yin and yang-styled yoga seems now the only way to practice - an enormous wealth therein. My own practice has become kinder, more respectful, holistic and refined, through the length of this course. I find myself more witnessed and self-accepting - both on the mat and off - in a way I had not considered prior to the course.
∼Maha Malik, Pakistan, graduate of YYTT 2013
“This course was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It achieved and surpassed my objectives in every way.”
∼Rosalind Wade, Hong Kong, graduate of YYTT 2012.
"This course will serve you well if you want to make yoga a full-time career. You will know how to keep your students safe, how to design balanced lesson plans, how to create the right atmosphere for class, how to work with private clients and much more."
∼Gudrun Docherty, Greece, graduate of YYTT 2012.

“I'm amazed how much I have learned in just 4 weeks. Though a heavy portion of anatomy, it's delivered in a way that's relevant to my practice, so I'm not learning anatomy for the sake of it.
∼Sheila Lam, Hong Kong, graduate of YYTT 2013
“I feel ready to teach yoga. The knowledge and practice I have absorbed and developed here has given me confidence and deepened my passion for yoga.
∼Smita Das, UK, graduate of YYTT 2013
