About the Retreat

simon-2016-01-03 Join Simon Low for a wonder-filled yoga start to the year. A week of yoga practice and study for body, breath and mind to revitalise the spirit of refreshment and renewal, recovery and rest, while setting supportive intentions and establishing intelligent directions for a happy and healthy year ahead, on and off the mat. Each day will include a predominantly yang morning practice with afternoon yin and restorative yoga. Throughout the week we will share, chant, come together for meditation and benefit from study sessions to deepen your yoga knowledge and experience, especially in the fields of anatomy and physiology, psychology and philosophy. The rest of the day allows time to enjoy the beautiful beach right in front of Samahita Retreat, the nearby temple, the numerous local beaches and attractions, and of course to benefit from the many therapies available at the Samahita wellness and detox centre.

About the Teacher

Simon Low

Simoin-LowSimon Low, BWY and Yoga Alliance (E-RYT 500) teacher, is the Principal of The Yoga Academy offering foundational and continuing education to yoga teachers and students in the UK and internationally. After a career in the music industry based out of London and New York, Simon undertook training as yoga teacher and therapist 24 years ago with renowned yoga teacher, therapist and author Dr. Larry Payne at Samata International in Los Angeles, California. These studies were augmented by Simon’s training in macrobiotics, bodywork and psycho-spiritual enquiry. Simon’s foundational teachings are informed by the teachings of Sri T Krishnamacharya and his primary students. Simon’s current teachings reflect his continued training and on-going studies with international teachers in many forms of Hatha and Classical yoga, traditional Chinese and eastern medicine, Chi Kung, ancient and contemporary healing methodologies, centred-movement, psychology and physical therapy. Simon is an ongoing student of A.H. Almaas’ Ridhwan School, but his primary teacher lives within himself, a relationship he continues to cultivate with the help and guidance of his current teachers and practice. He inspires others to cultivate the same relationship within themselves and their own yoga practices. Following many years of teaching in the UK, Simon co-founded Triyoga in London, where he was Director of Yoga until 2003, since which time he has concentrated on teacher training at The Yoga Academy and on leading study intensives, workshops and rejuvenating yoga retreats around the world. Over the years, Simon has developed a unique and personal teaching style and now practices and teaches a harmonious combination of Yin and Yang Yoga. Not a set system but a balanced approach that can inform and enrich all styles of yoga, Yin and Yang Yoga offers fresh vitality to yoga practice, kindness and respect to the human form, transformative breathing practices, and for the mind – the space for peace and tranquillity. In 2007, Simon released his now very popular DVD “Yin and Yang Yoga” and will release a Yin Yoga App in 2014. The retreat was immensely rewarding and an enriching experience and tremendously helpful to both new and experienced practitioners to yoga. Both Simon and Eija were extremely patient and open to share their knowledge. I gained a higher awareness of postures and alignment to improve my yoga asanas.  Highly recommend this as a time out from daily life to build mindfulness and deeper self awareness.

∼ Holly Ong, Singapore

I am a yoga teacher and have travelled around the world for yoga retreats. I usually become ill during travelling to a point that I need to visit a doctor. Any change of weather, food or fatigue can cause problems in my system. In my last journey in January 2014, I went to Samahita Retreat for a yoga holiday with Simon Low. By the end of the week, I felt very healthy and extended my stay for an extra week with him at Jungleyoga, also in Thailand. During these two weeks, I got rid of pains that had been caused by an old back injury in yoga. The results were magnificent and I could not believe it. I felt less tired and more energetic, and the results exceeded my experiences from various health farms in India. ∼ Afsaneh Saghari, yoga teacher, Teheran, Iran
Yoga holidays are often a great way to go a little deeper, but if you are going to spend your hard earned money and time then seek out a really experienced and skilful teacher. Simon Low is a pioneer in his approach, which weaves in Eastern disciplines with Yin and Yang Yoga and the latest scientific theory. The end result is that you leave feeling as if every joint in your body has been oiled and made fully mobile again. I’ve been going to his holidays and workshops for 12 years and always come back fizzing with energy. Simon puts meticulous care into his holidays from the choice of venue upwards. He attracts a discerning and warm crowd, who are fun to spend time with. His relentless attention to detail makes it on my must-do list every year. ∼ Nahid de Belgeonne, Director and Founder of Good Vibes, London, UK
Simon’s yoga retreat was truly transformational for me. After a difficult year I needed a complete rebalancing and Simon’s calm, supportive and meditative teaching style provided a wonderful, safe and nurturing environment. I left feeling re-energised and re-aligned, both physically and mentally. Thank you Simon and Eija for an amazing experience. ∼ Christine Page, UK
The true spirit of yoga was present on and off the mat. Simon led us in our yoga practice seamlessly and with the lightness of touch that only a committed and ongoing student of yoga can, ensuring that newbies and those with more experience had an enjoyable practice packed with learning. I will be recommending this retreat to my students, colleagues, friends, in fact anyone who is prepared to listen!! The week gave me so much on a professional and personal level and at the same time was a perfect holiday. ∼ Julie Bickerton, UK
This was my third retreat with Simon. I loved it so much in 2011 that this time I persuaded my husband to come too, although he doesn’t have a regular yoga practice. He absolutely loved it: the wonderfully invigorating and restorative classes, with details of anatomy and philosophy that many teachers omit. ∼ Stephanie Herbert, UK
Simon has the ability to teach a class of very mixed abilities, from beginners to experienced and still make the class relevant for everyone. His teaching is always evolving so that every class is different. ∼ Sara Moloney, UK
Simon has a number of qualities, all of which can be found in many yoga teachers but rarely are they all found in the same yoga teacher. He has a breadth and depth of understanding of yoga asana that few teachers I have met can match, combined with a deceptively easy teaching style that presents the information in a readily absorbable manner so that you almost don’t realise you are learning, but you are. When you combine all this with the knowledge that Simon actively seeks out the best places to practice yoga, wherever in the world, and has a passion for the care and comfort of his students, whether it be the facilities in the yoga studio, the food, the accommodation or the general environment, I always know that a retreat with Simon will be a high quality experience. ∼ Steve Whittam, yoga teacher, UK
I’ve been making a conscious effort to do more exercise and felt a need to expand my repertoire. I found the yoga was manageable and Simon made a noticeable effort to keep the classes interesting and inclusive to the less flexible! I enjoyed them. ∼ Chris Marsden, a newcomer to yoga and to Simon, UK
